Why slab damage is a Nashville punch-list factory

2) Trades use the slab as laydown space

Drywall, steel, MEP rough-in, and storefront work all want staging. On tight Nashville sites, there may be nowhere else.


Prevent it: Define a laydown zone that is not on green concrete, and enforce it.


3) Early forklift/scissor lift traffic without a route

Random travel paths concentrate loads at edges, joints, and turns.

24 hours before the pour: plan access like a scope

  • Identify “no traffic” zones (entries, storefronts, high-visibility areas)

  • Identify the designated route for any future equipment

  • Confirm laydown areas off the slab (or on sacrificial protection if unavoidable)

  • Confirm who controls access and who can approve exceptions

  • Confirm sawcut schedule and curing/protection plan

Day-of: set the rules while the slab is still fresh

  • Install physical barriers and signage before other trades arrive

  • Mark protected edges/corners and high-visibility zones

  • Communicate the traffic plan at the daily huddle

  • Keep washout, pallets, and tool staging off green concrete

0–24 hours after finishing: protect edges and joints

  • Keep all traffic off unless explicitly approved

  • Maintain curing and surface protection
